Ancient Poetry Leaf - Safavid Persian #1 - circa 1775 AD





- a leaf of poetry from a large Safavid manuscript
- handwritten circa 1775 AD
- provenance is Persia
- there are text on both sides of the leaf, with similar illumination
- each page contains 15 lines of Farsi text written in nastaliq script, using black ink on fine hand made polished paper
- central text block is enclosed in a floral border of painted gold and rules of gold and blue
- diagonal marginal commentary surrounds the text and is decorated with 3 gold devices and 5 additional rules
- the text is most likely from one of the many collections of secular poetry popular in the Persian Empire
- leaf measures 5.5" x 9.25"
